Naming Love in Shadow (All About Love by bell hooks)

Reading: Preface + Chapters 1–3 (~3 chapters)

This week, we begin reading hooks. She asks us to define love, to recognize what has been left unnamed, forgotten, or twisted in the silence of family history. These chapters are a reminder: love is both our inheritance and our responsibility.

Discussion / Reflection:

  • How does your bloodline show—or hide—love?

  • Where have you inherited patterns of silence or avoidance around love?

  • Hooks asks us to practice honesty in love—where can you speak truthfully to what was hidden?

Journal Prompt: Write your own definition of love—as both a noun and a verb—in relation to your ancestors. When you’re done, you can read my personal entry for this prompt in the Journal section of my blog.
