Smellng Amazing During the Summer : My Go To Shower Routine

It’s that time again—summer is approaching fast! With BBQs, beach vacations, and poolside lounging right around the corner, staying fresh and smelling good is a must in the heat.

As a self-proclaimed hygiene enthusiast, I’m always looking for ways to improve my skin health while smelling amazing all day long. After years of trial and error, here’s the everyday basic summer shower routine that keeps me glowing, moisturized, and odor-free from sunrise to sunset.

1. Start With Chlorophyll

For the past three years, I’ve started my mornings with a chlorophyll supplement. I originally used capsules, but now I prefer the liquid form mixed in water as soon as I wake up.

Although research is still limited, I swear by it. Personally, it helps with body odor—fresher breath, less odor from sweat, gas, or waste—and I’ve noticed clearer skin, especially around my cycle. It’s one of those “can’t skip it” steps for me.

2. Exfoliate & Cleanse: African Net Sponge

I used exfoliating gloves for years—until TikTok put me on to the African net sponge, and it changed the game. It gives that light exfoliation I need to feel fresh while using less soap for a rich lather.

Bonus: it dries super fast and lasts way longer than gloves or loofahs. Goodbye musty puffs, hello clean sponge!

3. Wash: Dr. Bronner’s Castile Bar Soap

Castile soap is gentle and close to the skin’s natural pH. I use Dr. Bronner’s bar soap because it cleans without stripping moisture and often includes essential oils like tea tree, eucalyptus, or lavender for added antibacterial and antifungal benefits.

4. Moisturize in the Shower: Body Wash

I treat my body wash like an in-shower moisturizer. I rotate between Saltair, Dove, and Method—massaging them into my skin, then rinsing off well.

Afterward, I lightly towel-dry but leave my skin damp so it's ready to soak in all the post-shower hydration.

5. Moisturize on Damp Skin: Body Lotion

While my skin is still damp, I apply lotion everywhere except underarms, the bikini area, and intimate zones. Damp skin absorbs lotion better and helps seal in moisture for that soft, summer glow.

6. Odor Control: Witch Hazel & Mini Fan

This step is clutch for hotspot hygiene. I use a handheld mini fan to fully dry my underarms and intimate areas, then wipe each area separately with alcohol-free witch hazel on cotton rounds.

Witch hazel helps reduce bacteria and neutralize odor while calming the skin. Once dry, I apply a light layer of lotion to prevent dryness.

7. Seal & Protect: Body Oil + SPF

To lock in moisture and protect my skin, I apply Saltair Protect & Glow SPF 50. It gives me that moisturized, glowy look without the dreaded white cast.

This step gives you sun protection and keeps your skin dewy—no stickiness, no streaks.

8. Sweat Control: Body Powder

Sweating is natural—but odor and chafing don’t have to be. I use a scented or unscented body powder applied with a powder puff under the arms, between the thighs, under breasts, and anywhere else prone to sweat.

It helps prevent friction, keeps you dry, and adds a soft layer of protection throughout the day.

9. Foot Care: Shea Butter for Soft, Summer-Ready Feet

Summer = sandal season, so don’t forget your feet! I massage shea butter into my heels, toes, and soles for intense moisture.

On days when I have time, I slip on cotton socks for 30 minutes (or overnight) to really lock it in. Soft feet are a vibe—and cracked heels don’t match cute slides.

10. Apply Fragrance (The Right Way)

I finish with an alcohol-free fragrance, applying it to all the right spots:

  • Hair (light mist only)

  • Folds of elbows

  • Wrists

  • Over the heart

  • Belly button

  • Backs of knees

  • Ankles

These warm pulse points help the scent last longer and blend naturally with your body’s heat. It’s the final touch that keeps me feeling fresh, feminine, and polished all day.

Final Thoughts

This routine might seem like a lot—but once you get into the rhythm, it becomes second nature. Summer sweat and sun don’t stand a chance when you’ve got a solid hygiene system. Stay fresh, glow hard, and take care of your skin. You deserve it.
